For the International Team

The basic version of the Holiday Card. The final version has images of company products tied up with red ribbon under the tree.

Note: This card design is for the International Team with the Company I work for. It is not for Wal-Mart, but since my company is a big Wal-Mart vendor/supplier and because the cards will be going out to the Teams in all the Wal-Mart (ASDA) countries around the world, it makes sense to have a little Wal-Mart store, albeit an imaginary romanticized idea of Wal-Mart, in the picture.

Nice card but that can't be Wal-Mart. Have you ever seen a Wal-Mart parking lot that had trees? That would require landscaping and water and that would cut into their margins . . .

I don't want to sound like one of those anti-Wal-Mart crusaders, they're trying to make a buck just like everyone else. But come on, Wal-Marts are the most uninspiring stores in existence, especially when you consider that they could afford to blend in better than they do. Let's not be a patsy and sugar coat their role in our lives--they're an ugly box retailer selling at the cheapest price they can. No more, no less.

Check out http://wal-martrealty.com if you need to see what Wal-Marts really look like.

How about a card for RJR with Santa smoking his favorite brand?

I have said it before. Wal-Mart: the store we hate to love. Wal-Mart has figured out a lot, but not everything. You are right about the ugly box image, and the parking lots... Maybe the problem is that so many people drive cars in the first place. Wouldn't it be nice to have more bike racks outside the store, and more bike routes connecting places in the cities... and more people riding bikes around. I think so.

What ever you think about Wal-Mart, it is pretty good going to be designing their Christmas Cards. I have just found your blog through Blogs Illustrated, it is very good. I'll be back to check it out again soon!

Steph,
Cool card! So is this card really going to be sent all over the world? Maybe some day you'll be able to leave the dreaded cubicle and just design amazing things for a living.Wouldn't that be sweet? It would be right. I think you belong in a studio, not a cube. yours truly, K
